Recent Award Winners at UTP

Now that Congress has concluded, and it seems as if award season has begun with a bang, I’d like to take the time to congratulate a few authors who have recently won awards.

Congratulations to the following UTP authors who won awards at Congress 2010:

Candida Rifkind for her book Comrades and Critics which won the Ann Saddlemyer Award from the Canadian Association for Theatre Research.

Sheryl Hamilton, whose book Impersonations won the Canadian Law and Society Association’s Annual Book Prize.

Backwoods Consumers and Homespun Capitalists by Beatrice Craig won big at Congress, taking home the Sir John A. Macdonald Prize from the Canadian Historical Association as well as being awarded the Clio Prize for the Atlantic Region from the CHA.

Becki Ross’s Burlesque West was awarded the Clio Prize for British Columbia from the Canadian Historical Association, while Immigrants in Prairie Cities by Royden Loewen and Gerald Friesen took home the Clio Prize for the Prairies.

The 2010 Donald Smiley Prize from the Canadian Political Science Association went to Kristin Good for her book Municipalities and Multiculturalism.

Several UTP authors also received Honourable Mentions for their contributions:

Eric Mills received an honourble mention for his book The Fluid Envelope of our Planet for the Wallace K. Ferguson Prize awarded by Canadian Historical Association.

Honourable mentions for the Sir John A. Macdonald Book Prize awarded by the Canadian Historical Association went out to Bryan Palmer for his book Canada’s 1960s and to Lara Campbell for her book Respectable Citizens.

UTP is also pleased to announce that Wendy Dosbon’s Gravity Shift, which will be released in paperback this summer, was nominated for the National Business Book Award sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and The Bank of Montreal Financial Group. Jeff Rubin was announced as the winner of the National Business Book Award on June 10th, 2010 for his book Why Your World is About to get a Whole Lot Smaller published by Random House Canada. UTP congratulates Jeff and Random House Canada for the win. It was an honour to be in the running for such a prestigious award.

Just announced! Congratulations to William Kaplan who has been awarded a David W. Mundell Medal for 2009, recognizing excellence in legal writing, for his book Canadian Maverick from the Ministry of the Attorney General.
