Len Husband and Suzanne Rancourt attended the Berkshire Conference on the History of Women at the University of Toronto, May 23-25th, 2014.

The Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences took place May 24-30th, 2014, at Brock University.

Brian MacDonald attended BookExpo America in New York, NY, May 29-31, 2014.

David E. Smith was awarded the Canada Prize in the Social Sciences for Across the Aisle: Opposition in Canadian Politics.

Merry Hell: The Story of the 25th Battalion (Nova Scotia Regiment), Canadian Expeditionary Force 1914-1919, by Captain Robert N Clements, MC and edited by Brian Douglas Tennyson, was shortlisted for the Dartmouth Book Award for Non-Fiction.

Wooden Os: Shakespeare’s Theatres and England’s Trees by Vin Nardizzi was shortlisted for the Society of Theatre Research Theatre Book Prize.

Avant-Garde Canadian Literature: The Early Manifestations by Gregory Betts, Writing Unemployment: Worklessness, Mobility, and Citizenship in Twentieth-Century Canadian Literatures by Jody Mason, and Margaret Atwood and the Labour of Literary Celebrity by Lorraine York were shortlisted for the Association for Canadian and Quebec Literatures Gabrielle Roy Prize.

Dimitry Anastakis was awarded the Canadian Historical Association Best Book in Political History for his book Autonomous State: The Epic Struggle for a Canadian Car Industry from OPEC to Free Trade.

Negotiating the Deal: Comprehensive Land Claims Agreements in Canada by Christopher Alcantara was shortlisted for the Canadian Political Science Association Donald Smiley Prize.

Bruce Curtis’ Ruling By Schooling Quebec: Conquest to Liberal Governmentality – A Historical Sociology was given an honourable mention for the Canadian Sociological Association John Porter Book Award.
