Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

University of Toronto Press is committed to ensuring the success of our authors through every stage of the publication process. The following resources have been developed to support authors who are preparing and submitting a manuscript for the copy editing and production stages of publication at UTP.

Manuscripts must be submitted as Word files following the instructions below.  Please ensure you have obtained any permissions prior to submission and that your illustrations meet our quality standards.

Preparing Your Manuscript

Manuscripts must be submitted as Word files following the instructions provided here. Please refer to these guidelines when formatting your manuscript and organizing materials for final submission.

Clearing Permissions

Reprinting of any copyrighted illustrations and text (beyond the limit of fair dealing/use) requires written permission from the copyright holder. Permission must be received before your book can proceed into production.

Preparing Your Artwork

Artwork (tables, figures, photographs, maps, etc.) must be submitted in a format that meets production quality standards. Please refer to these guidelines when preparing artwork for inclusion in your manuscript.

Accessibility

UTP is committed to publishing books in a manner that will enable individuals with disabilities to share the same level of access as other members of our community. Please review these guidelines for producing an accessible text.
