Are packages available?
University of Toronto Press will gladly bundle books together at special discounted prices for students. If you are an instructor who is assigning more than one UTP book in an upcoming course, please contact requests@utorontopress.com for package prices and ordering information.
Are hard copies of your books available for examination purposes?
In keeping with our green initiatives to reduce paper consumption, exam copies of many of our books are now available only digitally in encrypted PDF format. We will gladly provide you with a limited number of desk copies for you and your teaching assistants upon confirmation of a course order for a book.
UTP will continue to offer the option of physical exam copies of certain coursebooks. For these physical books, we kindly ask that you limit your requests to three or fewer at a time; if you are not confident that you will adopt the book or give it serious consideration, please help us keep costs down by requesting a digital exam copy. Once you are confident that the book is a contender for your syllabus or that you are going to use the book, you can contact requests@utorontopress.com for a physical copy.
I’ve forgotten my password. How do I retrieve it?
If you’ve lost or forgotten the password for your UTP account, you can easily retrieve a new one. On any page that asks you to log in or create an account, simply find “Can’t remember your password? Click here to reset.” Enter your email address and you will receive a link to reset your password.
Why do I need to download Adobe Digital Editions?
UTP employs digital rights management (DRM) in order to protect the content of our books. When downloading your digital exam/desk copy, the file format will show up as Adobe Content Server Manager (.ascm). This format is just the file “wrapper” that provides DRM for our digital exam/desk copy PDFs (and our saleable EPUB and PDF files). Adobe Digital Editions and Bluefire Reader are authorized to “unlock” the .ascm DRM, allowing you to access the content of the file. The files will not open in Adobe Reader, as a regular PDF would, because of the DRM wrapper that is present.
How long do I have access to my digital exam copy?
You have access to the file for forty-five (45) days after your request is approved. If you require additional time, you may renew your request once. If you require additional time after you have renewed your request once, please email requests@utorontopress.com.
Can I copy or print my digital exam copy?
No, you are not able to print, copy, or redistribute the file.
Can I view digital exam copies on my mobile device?
Yes, you can view your exam copies on a wide variety of mobile devices. You may need to install a special app for your device that is compatible with Adobe Digital Editions prior to downloading your digital exam copy. For Apple iOS and Android devices, we recommend the Bluefire Reader. Please check Adobe’s List of Supported Devices for more information.
I have the correct app for my mobile device but I cannot access my digital exam copy. What do I do?
When you initially downloaded and installed Adobe Digital Editions, you were prompted to register an Adobe account with a user ID and password. You must use this same account on your mobile devices to view electronic exam copies. Simply correct your ID on your mobile device to match the ID on your computer.
Why can’t I download my digital exam copy onto my iPhone or iPad while using Google Chrome?
There are known issues when trying to download .acsm files on an iPad using the Google Chrome web browser. For iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads, please use Apple’s Safari browser when downloading content. For help with Bluefire Reader, please visit Bluefire’s Support Site.
I’m getting an error message in Adobe Digital Editions. What does it mean?
For help with Adobe Digital Editions, please visit Adobe’s Learn and Support.
Here are a couple of common error messages:
- “Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_REQUEST_EXPIRED”
This could mean that you clicked the download link for your digital exam/desk copy prior to installing Adobe Digital Editions.
- “Error getting license/License server communication problem: E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER”
This could mean that you tried to download your digital exam/desk copy a second time using a different Adobe ID or anonymous activation. Downloading a DRM-protected digital exam/desk copy on more than one computer or device requires activating them with the same Adobe ID.
To fix this issue, de-authorize your copy of Adobe Digital Editions and then authorize it again. Ctrl-Shift-D (Cmd-Shift-D Mac) should bring up a de-authorization dialog box. Next, log in to your UTP account and download your digital exam copy from your “My Exam Copies” section again. Make sure to log in to Adobe Digital Editions with your desired Adobe ID so that it’s associated with the correct account activated in Adobe Digital Editions.
