ANNE TANENBAUM CENTRE FOR JEWISH STUDIES ANNOUNCES SALE OF NEW JEWISH PRESS TO UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO PRESS

For Immediate Release

November 15, 2018

Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies (“CJS”) and University of Toronto Press (“UTP”) announced that the two organizations have entered into an agreement for UTP to acquire the inventory and all contractual rights relating to the New Jewish Press (“NJP”). A CJS-UTP Publishing Advisory Board will be formed, to shape the future publication of outstanding books in the domains of Jewish culture, history, philosophy, literature, and religion.

“The acquisition of NJP supports UTP’s strategy to expand its publishing of high quality books for a wider general readership beyond the academy,” says Lynn Fisher, Vice President, Book Publishing, at UTP. “The addition of NJP’s titles will extend UTP’s reach into the trade marketplace with titles recognized internationally for their quality.”

“We are delighted to welcome the authors of the NJP titles to join their colleagues at UTP and are pleased that the addition of the NJP titles will move us forward in an important area of our publishing program,” said John Yates, President, Publisher, and CEO of University of Toronto Press. “We look forward to working with the CJS to publish new works that are of the highest quality and contribute to Jewish society and the mission of UTP.”

“The Anne Tanenbaurm Centre for Jewish Studies is proud of the first list of titles published by the New Jewish Press and is delighted that they will now be part of the University of Toronto Press,” said Anna Shternshis, Director of the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies. “We are confident that there are many more high caliber titles waiting to be published and look forward to developing them with UTP.”

UTP Distribution will continue responsibility for managing the distribution of the acquired titles.
