Siobhan McMenemy attended the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading, and Publishing in Philadelphia on July 18–21th, 2013.
Leslie Lockett was awarded the British Academy for the Humanities and Social Science Sir Israel Gollancz Prize for Anglo-Saxon Psychologies in the Vernacular and Latin Traditions.
Opiyo Oloya launched his book Child to Soldier on July 4 at Toronto’s Ben McNally Books. The event was hosted by Warren Chrichlow and featured a presentation by the charity Children of Hope Uganda, food and African tea from New Bilan restaurant, and a set by virtuoso oud player Hassan El Hady. On July 8, Oloya chatted with Matt Galloway on CBC Radio’s “Metro Morning” about how writing Child to Soldier informed his decision to spend part of his summer vacation in Uganda, helping a United Nations mission track down warlord Joseph Kony.
On July 16, Harvey Schachter profiled Roger Martin and Karen Christensen’s Rotman on Design in his monthly round-up of notable business books in the Globe & Mail.
