New collaboration provides libraries and researchers with greater flexibility, discoverability, and continuity of access across two trusted platforms.
Toronto, ON – September 23, 2026— University of Toronto Press (UTP) and Paradigm Publishing Services are pleased to announce a new collaboration that will provide libraries subscribing to UTP eBook collection with access to their licensed content through both the UTP Publishing platform and De Gruyter Brill.
The new dual-access model is designed to enhance the library and user experience by offering multiple pathways to discover, access, and utilize scholarly content. Through the collaboration, institutions that license UTP eBook collections will be able to provide their patrons with access through either platform, allowing researchers, students, and faculty members to work within the environment that best supports their needs and preferences.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment by UTP and Paradigm to improving access to high-quality scholarly resources while supporting libraries’ evolving requirements for usability, discoverability, and service continuity.
Key benefits of the dual-access model include:
- Greater flexibility for libraries and end users in how scholarly content is discovered and accessed
- Enhanced discoverability across two established scholarly publishing platforms
- Expanded choice for researchers and students based on platform preferences and workflows
- COUNTER-compliant usage reporting from both platforms
- Increased continuity of access through multiple points of entry to licensed content
The collaboration also supports libraries’ broader goals of maximizing the value of their collections by making content more visible and accessible within diverse research environments.
“Libraries are looking for solutions that make scholarly content easier to discover and access, while meeting researchers where they are,” said Antonia Pop, Vice-President, Publishing, University of Toronto Press. “By offering access through both the UTP Publishing platform and De Gruyter Brill, we are providing our library partners and their researchers greater flexibility and a more seamless research experience, while expanding the reach and impact of UTP scholarship.”
“For all the challenges facing academic publishing in the 21st century, the digital landscape also creates new opportunities for collaboration,” said Emily Poznanski, Executive Vice President of Product & Publisher Relations at Paradigm. “This collaborative enterprise is a first of its kind, and we’re excited to launch it with the University of Toronto Press, one of the most respected university presses in our industry and a key partner here at Paradigm. Together, we hope to demonstrate what new forms of partnership can make possible—and that this will be the first of many.”
For libraries, the result is a more resilient and flexible access model. For patrons, it means greater choice, a richer discovery experience, and convenient access to trusted scholarly content through the platforms they already use.
